Greg James has said that things are “all good” with Taylor Swift after he sparked a backlash with his “take a shower” comment backstage at Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend .

Swift performed her high-energy set on Monday, battling through humid conditions and hot temperatures in Swansea, before being interviewed by James backstage.

Referencing the energetic performance, James joked to Swift “I think you need to have a shower now”, causing some fans to criticise the “rude” comment.

But James has since responded to some social media users, saying that they had a “good catch up after the interview” and joked that he nearly made a rather different comment.

He said: “TS has a great sense of humour and we have known each other for ages and had a good catch up after the interview.

“It’s all cool. It was hot up there. I almost said we should both go for a shower but after this reaction I’m glad I didn’t!”

The Look What You Made Me Do star seemed unfazed by James’ original comment after her performance at the festival.

“I agree, I’m not offended, there’s a lot going on and almost none of it is good,” she laughed during the interview.

Highlights from the Biggest Weekend are available now on BBC iPlayer.
