Green wellies and garlic in Pimlico

For a taste of the countryside this weekend, head to rural Pimlico!

London's most fashionable pied-?-terre district will be brimming with fresh produce at its new farmers' market in Orange Square.

The Orange Square Farmers' Market burst onto the scene last week when it was opened by Westminster's Lord Mayor, Frances Blois, and local Royal furniture shop owner David Linley.

It is the first time produce has been sold in this way in the borough of Westminster for centuries.

Fresh seasonal produce comes from all around the South East, and includes Colchester oyster farmer Richard Haward's fine oysters, organic lamb from West Sussex, game from Buckinghamshire and Lincolnshire and garlic from the Isle of Wight.

Home-grown fruits from the garden of Kent and fresh juices and breads are also on offer. Almost uniquely for London, customers can meet the people who produce the food. All the producers come from within 100 miles of the M25.

The idea, was cooked up by the Pimlico Road Association as part of its drive towards a flourishing local community. The association also has hugely successful annual street parties, with many of the nearby shops taking part.

So if you fancy doing your weekly food shopping in the pleasant surroundings of SW1, then visit Pimilco's farmers' market this Saturday morning.
