Green Day have cancelled their Glasgow gig just hours before they were due to perform because of “unsafe” weather conditions.

The US rockers, who performed at BST in Hyde Park over the weekend, said they were “distraught” over the decision to call off the Bellahouston Park show but were prioritising fan safety.

“Glasgow, we are very sad to report that our show today at Bellahouston Park has been cancelled,” they said in a statement.

“The local safety council, production crew, and concert organizers have deemed the stage unsafe for the fans and everyone involved.

“We are very distraught about this as we are in Glasgow now and were very much looking forward to this show as one the highlights of our tour.”

The band insisted that they wouldn’t mind performing in adverse weather conditions, but the decision was out of their hands.

“We have been playing in extreme weather conditions throughout this European tour, and the last thing we want to do is see a show cancelled,” they said.

“We love our Scottish fans and we don’t care if it’s raining f****** sideways, although the safety of our fans and our crew is always our top priority. We love you Scotland, we love the city of Glasgow and it goes without saying that WE WILL BE BACK!”

During their London gig at the weekend, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd that he didn’t “give a s***” about the curfew”.

He said: “We’re going to play all night long, we might even play into tomorrow who knows? No one is going to stop us.”
