Comedian Jack Whitehall was supported by his girlfriend Gemma Chan as he attended the premiere of his new film The Bad Education Movie.

Whitehall, 27, worked the red carpet in London’s Leicester Square in a navy three piece suit while Humans actress Chan opted for a rose print dress.

The actor joked that his look was worlds apart from that of his character Alfie Wickers, tweeting: “Off to the premiere looking absurdly smart considering it's a film where I put my b*****s on a swan. #TheTeaBaggerFromUncle”

Whitehall – who co-wrote the script with Cockroaches writer Freddy Syborn – was joined by stars of the film including Layton Williams, Nikki Runeckles, Charlie Wernham, Kae Alexander, Ethan Lawrence and Jack Binstead.

The Fresh Meat actor this week confirmed that the BBC3 show – from which the film was born – will not be returning for a fourth series.

"I think that's it really," he told Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on This Morning. "The film is all the characters going out with a bang.

"Alfie wouldn't be allowed near a school after what happens in the film."

Also in attendance at tonight's premiere was Olly Murs. The 31-year-old presenter has clearly found hosting the X Factor to be exhausting work and hitched a piggy back down the red carpet from Jonathan Ross.

Other attendees included Jeremy Irvine - much to the delight of fans - Made in Chelsea's Stephanie Pratt, DJ Greg James and former footballer Gary Lineker who was accompanied by his three sons George, Tobias and Angus.

The Bad Education Movie hits cinemas on Friday.
