Alison Hammond left viewers of ITV’s This Morning in hysterics as she “cried” and "barricaded herself in her dressing room" over the end of her fantasy marriage to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The British presenter has had a faux relationship – and marriage – to the Hollywood star for years with their jokey showmance developing every time they met up for an interview.

After proposing during a chat on May 2017, Hammond even “married” Johnson in a full wedding gown and veil with his co-star Kevin Hart officiating the hilarious on-screen ceremony.

But during today’s episode of the ITV show, Hammond was left in tears, albeit fake ones, thanks to Johnson’s marriage to long-term girlfriend Lauren Hashian last month.

Sad music started playing as presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield revealed details of the "heartbreaking" turn of events.

Schofield explained that a beautiful relationship had come to an end as Hammond had been “cheated on” by her famous “partner”.

He said: "Obviously since hearing the news Alison has been utterly inconsolable. She’s barricaded herself in her dressing room."

The camera then panned to Hammond in floods of tears, with boxes of tissues and a big box of popcorn.

"I just don’t understand why he would have done this to me, that’s all. I feel so let down," she wept, as the presenters struggled to stifle their giggles.

Her tears came after the This Morning team managed to locate The Rock and convince him to break his silence on their relationship.

Speaking alongside Emily Blunt on the D23 Expo red carpet, he said: "Sorry Alison - I got married. I'm serving you the papers now. I'll call you later."

Blunt interrupted: "He's serving you the papers!"

In the studio, Schofield jokingly admitted Johnson's words were "brutal" and addressing Blunt's comment, Willoughby added: "Mary Poppins serving her the papers on a red carpet!"

Several Dwayne posters could be seen on the wall behind Hammond, who wailed: "I don't understand why he would have done this to me, that's all.”

She then proceeded to dramatically rip the posters down, adding: “I just feel so let down. I did kind of know [about his girlfriend], but we were married - I had a ring and everything.”

Last month, Johnson shared news of his (legally-binding) marriage to his girlfriend of 12 years.

Sharing the exciting news with his fans, Dwayne posted a picture of himself and Hashian kissing in front of the sunset and the caption: "We do. August 18th, 2019. Hawaii. Pomaika’i (blessed)."

Johnson and his wife met in 2006 and share a one-year-old daughter,Tiana, and a three-year-old, Jasmine.

He was previously married to Dany Garcia, who he divorced in 2007. They have an 18-year-old daughter called Simone.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10:30 am on ITV.
