Emma Bunton has addressed Mel B’s claim that she slept with Spice Girls bandmate Geri Horner, admitting “it’s the first I’ve heard of it.”

Speaking to Chris Evans on his Virgin Radio breakfast show, Bunton laughed off the scandal, telling the presenter that she takes everything Brown says “with a pinch of salt”.

“Out of anyone I’ve spoken to, you know the girls more than me!” she said to Evans, adding: “Mel B, sometimes I think ‘Oh my goodness, what is she saying now?’ It’s the first I’ve heard of it.”

Discussing the interview, in which Brown claimed that she and Horner (nee Halliwell) got together during the band’s Nineties heyday, she said: “I wasn’t there, I haven’t seen it yet. I felt left out!

“It didn’t take long for my phone to melt.”

When pressed by Evans as to whether the headlines had been “good for business” ahead of the band’s upcoming reunion tour, she replied: “I don’t know, it’s a laugh and also with Mel you take everything with a pinch of salt.”

The star, who is set perform at a series of stadiums across the UK in May and June alongside Brown, Horner and Melanie Chisholm, also admitted that she had feared no one would buy tickets for the tour.

“When we’re together we’re so positive and we get this energy, but I must admit the morning the tickets went on sale, me and my other half Jade were on computers in case we had to buy tickets, but it sold out within minutes,” she said.

Last weekend, Horner’s representatives released a statement which described the reports of a fling as “hurtful” and “disappointing.”

“It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumours again, especially on Mother’s Day of all days,” it read.

“Geri loves the Spice Girls: Emma, Melanie, Melanie and Victoria. She would [the fans] to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.

“Moving forward, Geri can’t wait to see the girls and all the fans on the tour, have an amazing time with everyone and make some new memories.”
