Ed Sheeran is reportedly set to headline Glastonbury next year following his hiatus.

The British star, who took a break from music and social media this year, is expected to play the coveted Pyramid Stage slot at Worthy Farm in July.

While festival officials are yet to confirm the news, reports suggest that Michael Eavis has already signed Sheeran.

“Michael is delighted to get Ed signed up. It’s going to be a huge moment for the festival having him up there marking his comeback in front of a giant crowd,” a source told The Sun.

The 25-year-old has performed at the festival in the past, taking to the Pyramid Stage ahead of Dolly Parton back in 2014.

But apparently he has always had his sights set on a headlining slot as it’s his ‘huge ambition’.

The Thinking Out Loud singer was rumoured to be in the running for a headline slot last year, but shot down the rumours.

Speaking to PA, he said: “The next festival I do will be headlining Glastonbury, but it just won't be next year. I want to be able to have at least three or four albums before I do it.

"There's not going to be an Adele-style break. I'm not having kids, I'm not getting married. But I won't be headlining Glastonbury.”

Bookmaker Ladbrokes took the decision to freeze betting after bets were placed on the singer performing on the Pyramid stage “at a rate of knots”.

Radiohead have already been confirmed to headline next year's festival, while both Foo Fighters and Gun 'N Roses are rumoured to be in the running for the third slot.
