Zayn Malik has been inundated with malicious messages from Little Mix fans who have branded his split from Gigi Hadid “karma” for his break up with Perrie Edwards.

Malik was said to have ended his engagement to the singer by a single text message when they called time on their relationship in 2015.

Following the news of his split from Hadid, Edwards’ supporters claimed to feel “satisfied” as they targeted Malik’s Twitter.

One user tweeted: “#RIPZigi Zayn was bad with Perrie after break up karma find you Zayn #WeLoveYouPerrie.”

Another wrote: “If this is true then I sure have a satisfied smile on my face (I mean aaawww too bad, I'm sorry) but let's face it, karma came & bit them on the bum. Don't hurt Perrie like that.”

Edwards and Malik met in 2011 before announcing their engagement in 2013. But they called time on their relationship in 2015, with Edwards claiming the former One Direction singer broke up with her over text. Malik has always denied the allegation.

Documenting the split in Little Mix's book, Our World, Edwards wrote: “It was horrible, the worst time in my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that.”

Malik and Hadid announced their split on Tuesday, with the Pillowtalk singer insisting he has a “huge amount of respect and adoration” for his ex.

Hadid broke her silence hours later, telling fans she will “continue to support him as a friend”.

Posting on Twitter, she wrote: “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years.. not only in the relationship, but in life in general. I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared.”

She continued: “I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for.

“As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be. xG.”

The couple started dating in late 2015 before going public with their romance on Instagram. They starred together in Malik’s music video for Pillowtalk and posed for a Vogue shoot before making their red carpet debut at the 2016 Met Gala.

Hadid previously dated Joe Jonas.
