Disney has confirmed plans for sequels to The Jungle Book and Maleficent.

Announcing plans for a number of forthcoming films, Disney has revealed that Angelina Jolie is back on board for a follow-up to the 2014 blockbuster.

A sequel to the newly-released Jungle Book will also hit screens following its box office success this weekend, with Jon Favreau lined up to direct once again.

Other projects including Tim Burton’s remake of Dumbo and ‘a Tinkerbell project’, starring Reese Witherspoon have also been confirmed.

The studio will also produce a 101 Dalmatians origins film called Cruella, with Emma Stone in the title role.

The much-discussed Mary Poppins sequel has also been added to the list of forthcoming releases, with Emily Blunt officially confirmed as the lead.

Elsewhere, plans for a live-action adaptation of Madeline L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time is in the works, as is a film called Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

The big announcement from Disney comes after The Jungle Book's phenomenal first week at the US box office.

The film, starring Idris Elba and Sir Ben Kingsley, has made an impressive $533 million in just two weeks.
