Declan Donnelly has revealed the due date of his first child with wife Ali Astall.

The much-loved presenter announced the news that the couple were expecting a baby back in March , sharing a sweet Instagram snap of the two from their wedding day.

Speaking at Sunday night’s Virgin TV BAFTAs, Donnelly revealed Astall is due to give birth in September, describing the news as “very exciting”.

Astall told the Daily Mirror: “I just wish it would come out now, that we could fast-forward to having the baby.

“We want to get on with it – we can’t wait.”

Astall, 40, showed off her blossoming baby bump in a silver gown on the carpet of the star-studded event at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

The event marked Donnelly’s first red carpet appearance since his TV partner Ant McPartlin was found guilty of drink-driving.

McPartlin stepped down from his work commitments to return to rehab after he was arrested on crashing his car into two vehicles in Richmond earlier this year.

The Geordie duo had two nominations in the Entertainment category for their hit TV shows Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain’s Got Talent, with the latter victorious.

Last month, it was confirmed that Donnelly will host the Britain's Got Talent live shows alone when the auditions end.

In a statement, ITV said: “Dec will be hosting the live shows which for the first time ever are coming from the Hammersmith Apollo while Ant steps down from his TV commitments for now.

"We send Ant all our love. And we know that Dec will do a brilliant job."
