Legendary singer David Bowie has topped the UK album chart with Black Star.

Bowie’s 25th album rose to the top of the charts with combined sales of almost 150,000 following his death on January 10.

The seven track album – which was released two days before he died – beat Elvis Presley’s If I Can Dream and Adele’s 25 to take the title.

It marks Bowie’s tenth UK number one album following The Next Day in March 2013.

The late singer has dominated the chart with 19 albums in the Top 100 including his 2014 compilation Nothing Has Changed which made the top five.

Bowie also occupied five positions on the UK Singles Chart.

His hit Heroes ranked 12, Life On Mars ranked 16, Star Man took 18th, while his 1969 hits Space Oddity and Let's Dance took numbers 23 and 24.

Combined sales and streams for Bowie records totalled 623,000 in the UK this week. The figure includes 241,000 album sales, 167,000 singles sales, and Bowie tracks were streamed over 19 million times.
