Gary Oldman had plenty to smile about as he stepped out for the premiere of his latest film, Darkest Hour.

The British star, 59, hit the red carpet in London’s Leicester Square hours after bagging a Golden Globes nomination for his role as the late Winston Churchill in the Joe Wright directed film.

Oldman is up against Timothée Chalamet, Daniel Day-Lewis, Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama.

His wife Gisele Schmidt and son Alfie were clearly keen to celebrate the nod as they braved the capital’s chilly temperatures to join Oldman on the red carpet for a family photo at Monday night's event.

The multi-award winning actor was also joined by his co-star Lily James who plays Elizabeth Layton, the woman who served as Churchill’s personal secretary during the Second World War.

James looked stunning in a floor length off the shoulder gown which featured white detailing and a bow.

The actress, who shot to fame after starring in ITV period drama Downton Abbey, cosied up to Oldman and Dame Kristin Scott Thomas on the red carpet.

The trio were pictured laughing as they shared a joke in front of the cameras.

Darkest Hour follows Churchill during his early days as Prime Minister as Hitler closes in on Britain during the Second World War.

Ben Mendelsohn, Samuel West, Hannah Steele and Richard Lumsden also star.

Darkest Hour is slated for UK cinema release on January 12.
