Danny Dyer has discovered that he is related to two kings of England.

The cockney actor, who hails from Canning Town in East London, was surprised to find out that he has royal lineage while filming Who Do You Think You Are? on BBC One.

On the forthcoming episode of the show, the EastEnders actor unearths some rather impressive blood connections, dating back to William the Conqueror and Edward III.

“It’s crazy. But the fact of the matter is that I am a direct descendant of royalty,” he told the Radio Times.

Dyer seemed most impressed to find out that he was related to Henry VIII’s advisor Thomas Cromwell.

“He came from a slum, I come from a slum. Cromwell left the country at 14, I started acting at 14. He was a self-taught lawyer. I’m a self-taught actor,” he added.

“Cromwell had two daughters and a son. I’ve got two daughters and a son.

“Cromwell wrote his last letter to Henry VIII begging for his life, on 24 July, which is my birthday … And I drink in the Anne Boleyn pub.”

While filming the show, Dyer also discovered that he is linked to an English Civil War Cavalier colonel as well as a present-day lord.

Dyer is just one of the stars taking part in the brand new series of the show, which helps stars trace their family trees and ancestor.

Pop star Cheryl, Amanda Holden and Sir Ian McKellen will also take part in the 13th series, starting on November 24.
