Daniel Craig has admitted that he’s nothing like iconic character James Bond, although his portrayal is less ‘sexist’ than others.

Ahead of the release of Spectre, the actor has claimed that he has tried to bring more ‘weight and meaning’ to his fourth outing in the role that he says has been ‘misogynistic’ in the past.

Speaking to Esquire magazine, he said: “Hopefully my Bond is not as sexist and misogynistic as [earlier incarnations]. The world has changed.

“I am certainly not that person. But he is, and so what does that mean? It means you cast great actresses and make the parts as good as you can for the women in the movies.”

Craig, 47, who is married to actress Rachel Weisz, went on to say that he sees a lot of sadness in Bond’s relationships with women.

He told the magazine: “There’s a great sadness. He’s got these beautiful women but then they leave. It’s sad.

“And as a man gets older it’s not a good look. It might be a nice fantasy, that’s debatable, but the reality, after a couple of months...”

In Spectre, Craig will be starring opposite Léa Seydoux, 30, and Monica Bellucci, 50, who will be the oldest actress to play a ‘Bond girl’.

Seeming to confirm the rumours, when asked if he would play Bond for a fifth time, Craig said:

“At this moment, no. I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.”

Spectre is set for UK release on October 26.
