Christine McGuinness has said that she “still loves” husband Paddy despite a series of “ups and downs” in their marriage.

The mother-of-three admitted that the couple were currently “working through things” in their relationship, after the TV presenter was pictured on a night out with Nicole Appleton earlier this year.

“As a family we’ve had an awful lot to deal with, but you can only do your best in a relationship. It takes working at,” she told OK Magazine.

“We’ve always been extremely private. We’ve been together 11 years and there have been ups and downs.

“I was 19 when we met. We’ve been through a lot as a couple in private, but I still love Paddy.”

McGuinness said that the recent interest in their marriage “made us open our eyes” to potential problems in their relationship during the “toughest year of my life”.

“The recent headlines made us open our eyes. It made us realise we have to make some changes. We were like, ‘We can make each other a lot happier,’” she said.

The couple’s twins Leo and Penelope, four, have been diagnosed with autism, with 18-month-old Felicity also showing signs of the condition.

“Felicity can’t be diagnosed until she’s three. She could be copying the twins, but even at six months old she was tensing her body when excited,” she said.

“She walks on tiptoes and does a flapping arm movement when happy – common signs of autism.”

McGuinness said that the couple weren’t planning on having any more children as “three is the magic number.”

She said: “We would’ve kept going, but a lot has gone on. It’s been one of the toughest years of my life.”
