Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger announced their engagement on Monday in a loved-up snap – but it didn’t happen until Pratt got permission to propose first.

According to reports, the Avengers actor, who proposed to Schwarzenegger one month after publicly confirming their romance, didn’t get down on one knee until after he had approval from her actor dad Arnold Schwarzenegger and mum Maria Shriver.

Pratt sought permission from the pair “around Christmas,” according to US Weekly, with Shriver even helping out with the proposal after supposedly having set them up.

Standard Online has contacted representatives of the pair for comment.

A source told the Sun: “They recently moved in together and that’s why the engagement was out of the bag – it’s not something Katherine would have done if they weren’t planning to get married.

“They’re both very devout – that’s one of the reasons their relationship works so well – and are very committed to their faith. Some of their early dates were even at church – so Katherine would have refused to live with him until they made the commitment to getting married.”

Pratt unveiled news of his engagement with a sweet snap of him hugging Katherine on Instagram.

The Parks and Recreations star captioned the post: “Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you.

“Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!”

The pair are rumoured to have been dating since last summer, but only confirmed their romance last month when Schwarzenegger turned 29.
