Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst walked the red carpet at the premiere of their new film The Beguiled just hours after it was given rave reviews by critics at Cannes.

The trio of co-stars were joined by Colin Farrell and director Sofia Coppola at the official launch of the Civil War-set thriller at the Grand Palais on Wednesday night.

Stars including Olivier Rousteing, Lara Stone, Doutzen Kroes, Hailey Baldwin and Izabel Goulart also showed up for one of the most eagerly-anticipated screenings of the festival.

Kidman, who has been promoting four separate projects at this year’s festival, wore her most striking outfit for her final film premiere.

The Australian actress, 49, walked her fifth red carpet in a row having launched two other films and TV series, Top of the Lake.

Kidman and Farrell, who also co-star in Yorgos Lanthimos' The Killing of the Sacred Deer, posed together on the red carpet just two days before.

Speaking about her ubiquity at this year’s festival, she said: “That's a confluence of events - that's not something I was aware would be happening.”

The Beguiled screened for critics just hours before the premiere, with many hailing it a return to form for Coppla and her best offering since 2003’s Lost in Translation.

The Gothic civil-war set thriller is about the events that unfold after an injured Confederate soldier who seeks refuge at a girls’ boarding school.
