Bradley Cooper fans were left "heartbroken" as he lost out on Best Director and Best Actor at the BAFTAs.

Cooper, who starred in his directorial debut A Star Is Born, was left deflated after being snubbed by the British Film Awards in the two major categories.

Best Director went to Alfonso Cuarón for Netflix success Roma, while Rami Malek picked up Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

Cooper, who picked up a gong for Original Music, was gracious in defeat as he politely applauded the winners - but fans were outraged on his behalf, claiming that he was “robbed”.

One wrote: “Heartbroken Bradley Cooper didn’t win best director #BAFTAs.”

Another tweeted: “How is Bradley Cooper not winning best actor or director awards? Literally puzzled #BAFTA.”

“Bradley Cooper is getting robbed consistently both as an actor and director through awards season. It's becoming a joke now #BAFTA,” scolded somebody else.

Cooper received rave reviews for his role as troubled musician Jackson Maine in A Star Is Born, which saw him star opposite Lady Gaga.

And, despite a host of awards for his direction across the US, Cooper’s fans were similarly outraged when he was snubbed for an Oscar last month.

The notable omission from the nominations list, revealed ahead of The Academy hosted ceremony later this month, left social media “fuming”.

Cooper later admitted that the snub left him “embarrassed” because he “felt like he hadn’t done his job”.

Gaga, who couldn't attend the awards because she is attending the GRAMMYs, paid tribute to the fans of A Star Is Born as she celebrated their BAFTA win .

Alongside a photo of her with her head in her hands, she wrote: "“I can’t believe we just won Best Original Music @BAFTA‘s .I wish so much I was there but am at the Grammy’s to show them our love as well.

"We made a film about music. This means the world to me. Thank u to all our fans we love u so much, we wouldn’t be here without u #BAFTAs."
