Eddie Redmayne will go head to head with Leonardo Di Caprio to retain his Best Actor title at this year’s BAFTAs.

Redmayne received a nomination for his portrayal of transgender pioneer Lili Elbe in the Tom Hooper directed film, while Di Caprio received one for his role as Hugh Glass in The Revenant.

The pair will face competition from Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Michael Fassbender for the Steve Jobs biopic and Matt Damon for The Martian.

Alicia Vikander’s role alongside Redmayne in The Danish Girl has also been recognised and she will compete against Carol’s Cate Blanchett, Brooklyn’s Saoirse Ronan, The Lady In The Van’s Maggie Smith and Room’s Brie in the Best Actress category.
