Ant McPartlin is reportedly set to pay wife Lisa Armstrong a record £31 million in their divorce settlement to avoid a lengthy court battle.

In what would be one of the priciest celebrity divorces in British history, the TV presenter is thought to be halving his £60 million fortune with his wife of 11 years.

According to The Sun, McPartlin is ‘happy’ to make the hefty pay out as he wants the make-up artist to be ‘supported’.

“It’s a huge amount but he wants Lisa to be financially and emotionally supported,” a source told the newspaper.

“He wants things to be amicable and doesn’t want a drawn out court battle with Lisa.”

The insider added: “He still views her as a best friend and wants them both to be able to walk away from the marriage positively.”

Armstrong, who is reportedly still ‘in shock’ over the split, is keen to take her time with divorce proceedings and not rush into anything.

McPartlin issued a solo statement announcing his plans to divorce Armstrong on Saturday, telling the Standard that he was “sad” to be ending his marriage.

“In response to the recent speculation in the media, Ant is very sad to announce that, after eleven years, he is ending his marriage to Lisa,” he said.

"Ant asks for privacy at this difficult time, for both himself, Lisa and their immediate families."

The split comes six months after McPartlin checked into rehab in the US to battle a substance abuse problem.

After returning to the UK following last year’s series of I’m a Celebrity, he moved into a rented house in London.
