Ant McPartlin and Lisa Armstrong reportedly had an explosive row over custody of their beloved dog just hours before his drink-drive crash.

The TV presenter was arrested after his Mini crashed into two other cars in London back in March, he was later fined £86,000 and banned from driving for 20 months.

According to reports, McPartlin had spoken with his estranged wife earlier that day in a furious phone call, which “ended their hopes” of reconciling.

“Lisa was at home with her dad when Ant rang,” a source told The Mirror.

“The conversation quickly got heated – it was to do with who should have Hurley next, as they are meant to be sharing custody. It quickly descended into angry words and swearing between them.”

The insider added: “At one point, Lisa's dad took the phone out of Lisa's hand and firmly told Ant, 'Don't you dare speak to my daughter like that.’”

The pair are thought to have split 10 months ago but are yet to finalise their divorce, with custody of the chocolate Labrador one of the major problems.

Armstrong hit out at her husband on social media this week after it was revealed that he’s stuck up a romance with PA Anne-Marie Corbett.

Armstrong, who is currently still married to the TV presenter, posted a string of tweets on Sunday night as she revealed she had not been informed about her husband’s new relationship before the news broke.

Responding to a Twitter follower who had said she “hoped he didn’t let you find out from the media”, Armstrong replied: “Nope. Just how you guys did.”
