Ant and Dec were the big winners at the Royal Television Society Award.

The Geordie duo were honoured for their TV work this year as they collected the trophy for Best Entertainment Performance on Tuesday night.

Proving that they’re still on a roll 21 years after their first nomination, the pair were recognised for shows including Britain’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway.

Speaking about the win, Ant McPartin said: “It means more now having been in the business for so long that we know how fleeting it can be.

“To still be in the business and still working for huge shows, we’re very thrilled and very lucky.”

Other big winners on the night included Suranne Jones who picked up the Female Actor award for her role in Doctor Foster and Anthony Hopkins who was honoured for his work in The Dresser.

The Breakthrough Award, which was introduced this year to recognise the emergence of a significant new talent in UK production, went to Michaela Coel for Chewing Gum.

Sir Lenny Henry was awarded a surprise fellowship for his work raising awareness of diversity in the industry.

He told the crowd: “I’m so truly humbled by this, thank you so much for the fellowship.

“I’m truly hopeful that this award is a pan-industry acknowledgement that diversity must be at the heart of our industry now and most importantly in the future.

“I’m happy the RTS acknowledges the importance of diversity and I hope the BBC and the Government accept the fundamental role of diversity by writing it into the charter.”
