Anna Faris has spoken out about her split from Chris Pratt for the first time, saying that “life is too short” to stay with someone who “doesn’t have your back.”

The comedian and actress reflected on the demise of her own marriage during an episode of her podcast on Tuesday, while giving relationship advice to a caller.

“Life is too short to be in relationships where you feel this isn't fully right or somebody doesn't have your back, or somebody doesn't fully value you. Don't be afraid to feel your independence if things aren't right,” she said.

Commenting on her own marriage, she added: “I made that mistake, I think, a little bit, like ‘I'm checking my relationship off the list’ and if that would be the final piece of advice I could give you, that would be know your worth, know your independence.'

"There are so many people out there, there's so much life experience, I hope you get to live it all and experience a whole lot of people.”

Faris, who recently announced that she was splitting from Pratt after eight years of marriage, thanked fans for their support at the beginning of the episode.

“Hey, dear listeners. I just want to thank you all so much for all the love I've been receiving, and I truly love you,” she said.

Faris and Pratt released a joint statement announcing their break-up last week, saying that they had “tried really hard for a long time.”

“Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed,” read the statement posted on Pratt’s official Facebook page.

“Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward,” it continued.

“We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.”

Pratt and Faris met on the set of film Take Me Home Tonight back in 2007 and got engaged just one year later.

They married in Bali on July 9 2009 and welcomed son Jack, who was born prematurely, in 2012.
