Amber Heard will not file a police report on the alleged abuse she faced at the hands of Johnny Depp, according to reports.

The actress, 30, has said she does not want to press charges against the actor for the alleged abuse which prompted her to file for a divorce, TMZ has reported.

A source told the US site that she does not want to “set the wheels in motion for People vs. Depp”.

The news comes days after Heard’s legal team explained how the Rum Diary actress had decided to file a report after Depp “began viciously attacking” her character.

Heard filed court papers seeking a temporary restraining order against Depp and claimed the actor had hurled a mobile phone at her during a fight on May 21, which struck her cheek and eye, but insisted she “would prefer to settle the matter out of court”.

But in a statement, Heard’s lead attorney Samantha F. Spector and her co-counsel Joseph P. Koenig told Standard Online that their client was “forced” to give a statement because Heard “cannot continue to leave herself open to the vicious false and malicious allegations that have infected the media.”

The statement described Heard as a “hero” and claimed an investigation would see Depp “get the help that he so desperately needs”.

The recent development also follows the publication of new images which appear to show the facial injuries Heard suffered during one of Depp’s alleged violent outbursts in December 2015.

Pictures published in People show the actress with a bloody lip and bruising to the face.

According to the magazine, the alleged attack made her ‘truly fear for my life’.

Depp and Heard met on the set of 2011 film The Rum Diary while Depp was still in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis – the mother of his son Jack and daughter Lily-Rose.

They married at a private ceremony in Los Angeles in February 2015.
