Amanda Holden has hit out at Cheryl Fernandez-Versini after the X Factor judge called for body shaming to be made illegal.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge, 44, said the singer needs to get used to juggling the good with the bad as it is part of being famous.

"It's a little stupid to say it should be illegal," she told Mail Online. "Because where does it end? When you're in the public eye, you have to take the good with the bad."

She added: "Like it or not, she wouldn't be on the panel if it wasn't for the papers. You can't complain. I think she's gorgeous anyway."

Fernandez-Versini – who was forced to defend her own weight loss in recent weeks – made the comments during an interview with ES Magazine.

The Fight For This Love singer said that after 13 years in the industry she can take negative comments, but is fearful for the younger generation.

“I can take whatever they throw at me after 13 years, what worries me is what it’s doing to the younger generation," she said. "And some of the people writing this stuff are women. There is no sisterhood.

“The body-shaming has to stop. Something has to be done, changed, even if it’s done in law.”
