They might be two of the biggest A-listers in Hollywood, but even the star power of Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins couldn’t pull in the punters for their latest film.

Despite the heavyweight cast, new film Misconduct made just £97 when it opened in the UK last weekend.

According to The Guardian, the Shintaro Shimosawa-directed film only opened in five cinemas nationwide despite the starry cast.

But it seems that each cinema only took £19.40 on average, meaning that only three or four people saw the film in each screening.

The poor box office takings could be due to the fact that Misconduct was released digitally at the same time and faced stiff competition from Warcraft and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

Warcraft, which was released at the same time as Misconduct, made £3.6 million from 500 cinemas during release.

Overwhelming negative reviews for the film, which is about a lawyer who becomes embroiled in a kidnap plot, could also have had an large impact on the cinema footfall.

As well as Oscar-winners Pacino and Hopkins, the film also stars Josh Duhamel, Julia Stiles and Malin Akerman.

According to Variety, Misconduct cost a staggering $11 million to make and had a similarly poor opening in the US back in February.
