Adele’s 25 has smashed US chart records to become the biggest selling album since her last one.

The British superstar’s third studio album has now surpassed Taylor Swift’s 1989 in the US, having sold 5.98 million copies.

While the star’s new record is some way off 21, which shifted 11.37 million copies, she has just edged past Swift’s 5.57 million.

These latest sales figures are even more impressive seeing as the album was only released four weeks ago.

Adele, 27, managed to break another sales record recently after 25 became the first album ever to sell more than 695,000 copies in four different weeks.

Despite her record-breaking sales figures, the star is still some way off of breaking Michael Jackson’s recent record.

The late pop star’s seminal album Thriller has just become the first to sell more than 30 million copies in the US.

The iconic record, which features songs Beat It and Billie Jean, has smashed the record 33 years after it was originally released.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Thriller has just surpassed the milestone and is now the best-selling album in US history.
