It was one of the most notorious killings in gangsta rap history - but after eight years the alleged killer of the Notorious B.I.G. has finally appeared in court.

Former Los Angeles police officer David Mack, currently in jail for robbery, is accused of planning the murder of Christopher Wallace, known as B.I.G., after a bitter feud broke out between two rap labels.

His death came six months after fellow rapper Tupac Shakur was killed in Las Vegas.

Lawyers for B.I.G.'s family, who filed a civil lawsuit at the LA court, claim that a friend of Mack carried out the shooting in March 1997.

B.I.G. was shot dead after going to a music industry party in Los Angeles. No one has been charged with his murder.
