Hugh Grant's continuing feelings for Liz Hurley have been blamed for driving a wedge between the actor and his girlfriend Jemima Khan.

The couple have not been seen together since Sir Elton John's white tie and tiara party last month, at which 44-year-old Grant openly flirted with Miss Hurley and she responded by sucking his fingers.

'Jemima was furious and stormed out of the room,' said a source. 'Things have been rocky ever since.

'She and Hugh haven't seen each other for some time. There might be some lingering feelings but this is not going to last the course. You could say it was practically over.'

Grant and Miss Hurley dated for 13 years before parting five years ago and heiress Jemima, former wife of ex-cricketer Imran Khan, is his first serious girlfriend since.

They confirmed they were an item last August and at Christmas enjoyed a trip to the Caribbean with Grant's father James.

Jemima was wearing a ring on her wedding finger and many believed that if they were not already engaged, they would be soon.

But sources say the 31-year-old mother of two struggled to cope with the constant threat of Miss Hurley, who still lives only doors away from Grant and speaks on the phone to him every day. Jemima felt so insecure that she deliberately held a party in the South of France to coincide with the actress's 40th birthday last month.

'She has been racked by jealousy over Elizabeth,' said the source. 'Elizabeth is a very beautiful and confident woman while Jemima is a lot less certain of herself.

'She planned to show her dominance over Hugh's heart by holding a party in the South France at the same time as Elizabeth's 40th. Quite a few people who would have been at Elizabeth's party - including Hugh - went to Jemima's.

'So the next time they all came together, at Elton's party, Elizabeth had her revenge.'
