Police are investigating a claim that Amy Winehouse assaulted a theatre staff member on a visit to a family panto.

Police probe: Amy Winehouse

The singer reportedly upset people in the audience with obscene interjections to the fun during a performance of Cinderella, starring Anthea Turner and Mickey Rooney at the Milton Keynes Theatre.

The alleged assault is understood to have taken place when a front-of-house manager tried to contain the outburst by ushering Winehouse, 26, to a box. The singer was then asked to leave.

According to reports, Winehouse was at Saturday night's show to see Anthony Kavanagh, a friend and reality TV star who was standing in as Prince Charming.

A spokeswoman for the theatre said: "We can confirm that on Saturday evening a member of the audience was asked to leave the building during a performance of Cinderella."

The spokeswoman insisted that the theatre could not supply any further information but added that all its staff had "acted appropriately according to our code of conduct".

A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police said the force was investigating an allegation of assault on a 27-year-old man after being called to the theatre just before 9.30pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for Winehouse's record label declined to comment.
