Adele shared her joy on Sunday after she won her first Emmy Award and joked she’s edging closer to ‘EGOT’ status in a heart-warming Instagram post.

The singer was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) for Adele: One Night Only, her musical TV special filmed in Los Angeles at the Griffith Observatory, which aired in Novermber, at Saturday’s ceremony.

The special marked her first live performance in six years and saw several celebrity guests in attendance including Lizzo, Leonardo DiCaprio, and James Corden and was officially hosted by Oprah Winfrey.

The One Night Only event saw the British songstress perform songs from her most recent album, 30, as well as several of her biggest hits like Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You. Notably, it was the most-watched special since the Oscars.

Although Adele wasn’t present at the Emmy awards ceremony, the 34-year-old revealed the special’s executive producer, Ben Winston, hand delivered her statue on Sunday, and she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pose for a selfie with it.

Sharing her pride over the achievement, Adele penned alongside her three-shot post: “Bloody hell I’m pleased as punch! Thank you @mrbenwinston for dropping this round to me this afternoon!

“Trust me to officially have an EGO,” she added with a laughing emoji. “I’m so so honoured to receive this. Big up to everyone involved.

“@griffithobservatory thank you for letting me sing up on your mountain and big love to all the other nominees.”

Adele’s Emmy win means that she is only a Tony award away from securing an ‘EGOT’ having previously won 15 Grammys and an Oscar in 2013 for Best Original Song for Skyfall.

‘EGOT’ status is a highly coveted accomplishment for people in the entertainment industry, one that only 17 people have.

The most recent member of the elite club is Jennifer Hudson, who won a Tony in June for producing the musical A Strange Loop. While other notable winners include Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend and West Side Story’s Rita Moreno.

Adele’s CBS special won big at the Creative Arts Emmys, also picking up awards for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special, Outstanding Technical Direction/Camerawork for a Special, and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special.

The Emmy Awards’ main ceremony will take place on Monday, September 12.
