Redknapp misery after defeat

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said he was "suicidal" after a third successive Barclays Premier League defeat left his side under increasing pressure from north London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs lost 1-0 at Everton thanks to Nikica Jelavic's first goal for the club midway through the first half. A couple of weeks ago Redknapp's side were being hailed as title contenders but after defeats to Manchester United, Arsenal and now Everton their third place is under threat from the Gunners, who play on Monday.

Redknapp said: "I'm suicidal really. We've lost away to Arsenal, away to Everton and at home to Manchester United and they're always going to be tough games."

He added: "Two of the games we didn't deserve to lose, today and against Manchester United. I said all along that 10 points can evaporate very quickly. You look at the fixtures and you knew going away to Arsenal, Chelsea, playing Manchester United, they were tough games and you knew it could turn.

"But we're still in a better position than the other teams and we've just got to keep going, keep believing and we'll go again and turn it around.

"Against Manchester United we couldn't have asked for more but we switched off for a couple of set-plays and today we came back so strong in the second half and they didn't come out of their half, we just couldn't get the ball."

Everton boss David Moyes, who celebrates his 10th anniversary at the club on Wednesday, has seen his side beat the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and now Tottenham on home turf in a nine-match unbeaten run.

And while he was delighted with the result - and Jelavic's goal on his full debut - he admitted the performance could have been better.

"We got a great result but we can play much better than that, certainly in the second half," he said.

"Tottenham are a really good team and we had to play really well to stay in it but we did. In the end we had to say that if we couldn't keep the ball, we'd make sure we kept them out and thankfully we did that."
