Mantell injury blow for GB

Simon Mantell
4 May 2012

A fractured metatarsal has ruled Great Britain forward Simon Mantell out of the remainder of this week's Olympic test event at the Riverbank Arena.

The Reading player, a goalscorer in Thursday's 4-2 win over India in the Visa International Invitational hockey tournament, has broken the fifth metatarsal bone of his left foot.

Mantell, 28, was accidentally hit by the stick of an Indian player and an X-ray has revealed the extent of the injury.

No timescale has been placed on his treatment and recovery time. Great Britain's men are due to announce their Olympic squad next month.

Under the regulations of the tournament a replacement cannot be called up, so GB will complete the tournament with a squad of 17 players.
