Teenager held after woman dies

A teenager has been arrested after an elderly woman died from serious injuries.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was discovered by police officers at a property on Summergangs Road, in Hull, with a man, believed to be in his 80s, at 3.30am on Saturday.

Both people had suffered serious injuries and the woman died at the scene. A post-mortem is taking place.

The man was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary and is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Humberside Police said a 17-year-old was later arrested in Hull city centre in connection with the incident and is being held in custody.

As a result an area in the city centre was cordoned off for a time by police at the scene of the arrest.

The police said the parties involved in the incident were known to each other and the family of the woman who died is being supported by specially trained officers.

A police spokesman said: "The investigation is currently in its very early stages and inquiries are ongoing."
