Mr Trump and his wife Melania are due to touchdown at Stansted this morning and will begin a three day state visit with a reception at Buckingham Palace.

The US president said he may meet both Mr Johnson and Mr Farage and added he believed there was a very big trade deal in the near future for Britain, post-Brexit.

But asked about Mr Khan and Mr Trump likened him to New York mayor Bill de Blasio, “except shorter."

The Met Police says it has plans in place to deal with the expected protests in London, including tomorrow’s Together Against Trump demonstration.

Caver dies after horrific fall

A caver died in the Yorkshire Dales despite a 17-hour rescue operation to get him out involving almost 100 volunteers.

The Cave Rescue Organisation said the man was with a group of three when he broke his leg in a 6m fall deep at Curtain Pot, on Fountains Fell on Saturday.

It said the narrowness of the passages in the unmapped exploration cave posed severe difficulties for rescuers and the man died before he could be brought to the surface.
