A woman was arrested after reportedly trying to open the emergency exit door on a flight.

Crew members had to restrain the woman as terrified passengers looked on during the flight across China.

A scuffle broke out and the woman was eventually subdued, according to witnesses to the incident on a Capital Airlines plane.

One said: "It’s really not an easy job to be flight crew, especially when facing the daredevils. Fortunately knives are banned on flights.”

The woman, thought to be in her 20s, was arrested after the flight landed at Sanya in China's Hainan province.

The incident happened on a flight from Changsha in the Hunan province on Monday afternoon, according to reports.

A spokesman for Capital Airlines said: "A female passenger got up and tried to do something at the door, but was stopped by crew members.”
