The awards show, which usually takes place every February, was delayed by two months due to the pandemic.

But the show will officially go on this Sunday as many stars plan to take part in Hollywood’s most prestigious night of the year.

Below, we’ve rundown everything you need to know about this year’s Oscars.

When is the 2021 Oscars ceremony?

The ceremony will take place on April 25 in the US, airing live on US TV station ABC at 8pm Eastern Daylight Time (midnight on April 26 UK time).

The show is expected to last three hours and will see 23 awards given out.

How can I watch the 2021 Oscars in the UK?

Sky Cinema will broadcast the event in full on its sub-channel Sky Cinema Oscars, accompanied by a highlights reel on Sky One.

The Sky coverage will also be streamed online.

Where will the 2021 Oscars ceremony take place?

The ceremony will be held across two venues, the first will be in a courtyard at downtown railway hub Union Station in Los Angeles.

According to Oscars director Glenn Weiss and producers Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh, there will also be some “additional show elements” coming live from the Dolby Theatre – which usually hosts the prestigious ceremony.

Who is hosting the 2021 Oscars?

This year, the event will be hosted by various presenters, including: Regina King, Zendaya, Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Laura Dern, Renée Zellweger, Bong Joon Ho, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Harrison Ford, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, and Reese Witherspoon.

Who is nominated at the 2021 Oscars?

Viola Davis and Andra Day have been nominated for best actress and could make history for being the second non-white performer to take home the prize.

Riz Ahmed could also become the first Muslim to win best actor after receiving a nod.

A total of nine of the 20 acting nominees are non-white, making this the most ethnically diverse line-up in the 93-year history of the Oscars.

Will nominees attend the 2021 Oscars ceremony in person?

Producers have urged nominees to show up at what they call “an intimate, in-person event” and Zoom participation is limited.

However, satellite hubs have been arranged around the world for international nominees due to Covid travel concerns.

For the British nominees which include Daniel Kaluuya, Riz Ahmed, Carey Mulligan and Olivia Colman, there is a London broadcast hub, hosted by BFI Southbank.

Only nominees, along with one guest, and the presenters will be invited to the LA ceremony.

Will there be performances at the 2021 Oscars?

Yes. Performances from the Best Song nominees will be pre-taped while Húsavík from Eurovision Song Contest: The story of Fire Saga, will be recorded in Iceland.

What Covid measures are in place for the 2021 Oscars?

There will be an on-site Covid safety team administering PCR tests, and those taking part in the ceremony will have at least two Covid-19 tests prior to the ceremony.

Guests attending from outside the US are required to quarantine for 10 days, as well as take a minimum of two tests.

The award show capacity will be capped at 170 people and a temperature check will be mandatory.

While attendees do not have to wear masks on camera, they will be “central to the narrative” of the show, according to Mr Soderbergh.

Will there still be 2021 Oscars parties?

The infamous Oscar parties which usually take place in LA will not be going forward this year due to the pandemic.

The event will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, alongside Mr John and David Furnish in a bid to raise money for the singer’s AIDS Foundation.

Singer Dua Lipa will be performing a “stripped back” set.

The special will be hosted on virtual platform Cisco Webex, streamed in the US on April 25 and elsewhere (including the UK) on April 26.

The general public can attend the star-studded event and Ticketmaster is selling tickets for £14.99.
