A woman has received an outpouring of support after she accidentally live tweeted her husband's death.

Caran Johnson, who often tweets about traffic incidents in her local area, posted a series of messages on Twitter about a car accident near her home in Vancouver - only to discover that her husband had died in the crash.

Using the Twitter name @ScanCouver, she appeared to become increasingly concerned he might have been injured in the accident on the I205 road yesterday.

She wrote: "I'm trying not to panic but my husband left work early and he drives 205 to get home. He's not answering his phone".

She later posted: "How long do I wait for him to come home before I call the police?"

Police and traffic officials soon posted messages stating there had been a fatality.

Confirming the tragic news that her husband was the victim, Mrs Johnson eventually wrote "It's him. He died."

Hundreds of people have since sent her messages of condolence. One wrote: "My heart goes out to you and the boys. Don't know how much it helps but you have a lot of support here."

Well-wishers have set up an online fundraising page for Mrs Johnson and her family here.
