Donald Trump criticised over 'racist' tweets: Thousands call for President to be banned from Twitter over his 'go back' Tweet to democrat 'squad'

Twitter users from across the world have called for Donald Trump to be banned from the platform after he launched a tirade of tweets which have been denounced as “racist and disgusting”.

The US president has faced widespread condemnation over his inflammatory call for four Democratic congresswomen to leave the United States if they "are not happy" with the country.

The tweets were almost certainly directed at group of women known as "the squad", which includes Ilhan Omar, who was born in Somalia, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib, who are all US-born.

His latest refusal to back down over his tweets that the politicians should return to their "broken and crime infested" countries has sparked calls for Mr Trump’s removal from his favourite social network.

Under the hashtag #BanTrump, users have repeatedly asked Twitter why it has not banned the president over his racially-charged remarks.

“Right now you’re enabling a dangerous man to stoke violence against members of Congress,” tweeted one user to the platform’s official page.

“How does @realDonaldTrump still have a @Twitter account? He is one of the most abusive, racist trolls on the platform. I’m sure he’s violated terms…” wrote another.

“@twitter needs to #BanTrump and #BanHateSpeech,” another commented.

“We will never be a Socialist or Communist Country. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE! It is your choice, and your choice alone. This is about love for America. Certain people HATE our Country…,” he tweeted on Monday.

“They are anti-Israel, pro Al-Qaeda, and comment on the 9/11 attack, ‘some people did something’. Radical Left Democrats want Open Borders, which means drugs, crime, human trafficking, and much more…” he added, before finishing with “Keep America Great!”

Twitter responded to demands that it hold the American leader to account by saying it would “not be taking action” since Mr Trump’s tweets “did not violate its policies”.

However, it did not give any details as to why.

At the end of June, the social networking site said it would begin “labelling and demoting tweets” by world leaders that break its rules against harassment and abuse.

Its content policies ban “targeted harassment” of individuals, “abusive behaviour” and attempts to “harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice”.

They also state users may not “directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.”

Mr Trump is accused of explicitly invoking a number of those prohibited elements in his Twitter attack on the democratic representatives, particularly racial and ethnic origins.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how . . . it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough,” he tweeted on Sunday.

This message has since been deleted from his official Twitter feed, but it has not been forgotten.

“Seen that the racist tweet @realDonaldTrump wrote about the Progressive Congresswomen is not on his twitter page anymore,” commented one user.

“He's subject to all the rules on here just like all of us. He needs to be banned like for a week or so. Make him accountable for once in his life. #BanTrump”
