At least 30 people have died after a coach plunged 100m down a cliff and onto a rocky beach in Peru.
The bus was carrying 57 passengers as it drove along a narrow stretch of road known as the ‘Devil’s Curve’ in Pasamayo, about 43 miles north of Lima.
It was struck by a tractor trailer and tumbled down the slope before landing upside down on the beach.
Rescuers were working to pull victims from the area on Tuesday amid fears the death toll could rise further.
The recovery operation was made difficult due to the fact there are no direct roads to the beach, according to firefighter Claudia Espinoza.
However, police and firefighters managed to transport five survivors with serious injuries to a nearby hospital.
Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said: "It's very sad for us as a country to suffer an accident of this magnitude."
The passengers in the crash reportedly included many returning to Lima after celebrating the New Year's holiday with family outside the city.
