When a New York businesswoman woke up to see her name trending on Twitter, her mind began racing as to what had happened the night before.

But 40-year-old Elizabeth Line soon realised the online interest in her name was purely coincidental after Transport for London announced Crossrail would be renamed in honour of the Queen.

The vice-president of 23 Stories, a content division at Manhattan-based Conde Nast magazine publishers, said she was delighted to share her name with the newest part of the capital's transport network.

She tweeted, alongside a picture of Her Majesty holding a new Elizbeth line sign: "What an amazing honor. Just wish the Queen would give it a rest with the photobombs."

Miss Line told the Standard: "I'm thrilled about it. Nothing like waking up to a little insta-celebrity.

"When I found out I was trending on Twitter this morning, there were a few moments of "what did I do last night" panic but now I'm just having fun with it."

Asked about the chosen colour scheme to go with the new name, she replied "love the purple".

Transport for London announced today the Crossrail link, named the Elizabeth line in honour of the Queen, will start running through central London in December 2018, eventually connecting the city from parts of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire through to Essex.
