A killer crocodile said to have eaten four fisherman has been captured following a four day hunt in a Ugandan village.

The reptile, thought to be aged 80-years-old, weighs 1,000 kg and has been terrorising people living in the Jinja and Mayuge districts on the shores of Lake Victoria.

Officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority trapped the croc with meat on a hook before 100 residents gathered to watch it being hauled onto a pick-up truck.

A town council spokesman said the beast recently mauled one fisherman, leaving only his clothes behind which were found floating on the water.

Many fishermen refused to go near the lake until the crocodile was caught.

The crocodile was transferred to the Murchison Falls National Park.
