Moment driver stops to give CPR to stunned squirrel

Tom Powell6 October 2018

This was the moment a car driver stopped to give a squirrel CPR after fearing he had hit it.

Police officers spotted the man, named only as Chris, as he crouched down to help the creature in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Park.

One of the officers captured the rescue efforts on his bodyworn camera, and the video has since gone viral after being posted on the department’s Facebook page.

In the video, the man tells the officers he swerved to avoid the animal and did not think he struck it. The squirrel was not bleeding and the man says if he had hit it "he would've popped".

The squirrel eventually came back around and scuttled off

The police reassure him that the squirrel is probably "tumbled from the pressure of the car".

Chris flips the squirrel onto its belly and as he strokes its back, before the animal starts to come around.

The squirrel eventually darts away and an officer declares: "There he goes! You saved his life, dude!"
