Meghan Markle is scared to speak to her father Thomas in case he “leaks” their conversation to the media, according to reports.

The Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father shared details of his conversations with Prince Harry and his wife during a bombshell interview with Good Morning Britain last month.

According to US Weekly, 36-year-old Meghan is now too afraid to speak to her dad amid fears he will recount their conversations to the press.

A source told the publication she was “so upset” over the turbulent relationship.

They said: "She doesn’t even know how to communicate with her dad without knowing he won’t exploit her.

“She lives in fear that he’ll leak their communication. If he’s spoken this much already, why wouldn’t he leak their conversation?"

He source added that Meghan felt unable to “rebuild trust” with her father.

Mr Markle, 74, was unable to attend his daughter’s wedding in May after undergoing a heart operation just days before the ceremony.

The surgery came shortly after it was revealed Mr Markle had posed for paparazzi shots in the lead up to the wedding.

He said on Tuesday that he had only spoken to the press in a bid to grab his daughter’s attention.

“I was silent for a full year and the press beat me up every day saying I was a hermit hiding in Mexico, so I gave my story,” Mr Markle told celebrity news website TMZ.

“Apparently that interview put the royal family in their silence mode ... so I gave another interview to break the silence. All they have to do is speak to me.”

“Tomorrow (Wednesday) is my birthday, 74 years old, and I’m enjoying the fact that I can make the entire royal family not speak and maybe I can get a laugh out of the duchess,” he added.

The comments came days after Meghan’s estranged half-sister – Mr Markle’s daughter – Samantha claimed she would hold the Duchess of Sussex responsible if her father dies.

Last week, the retired film director said Meghan seemed “terrified” of her new role.

“I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing now. This one isn’t even a stage smile — this is a pained smile,” he added.
