Ivanka Trump rules herself out of replacing Nikki Haley after father says no one 'in the world' is more qualified

Ivanka Trump has ruled herself out of replacing the US ambassador to the UN after her president father said she was the most qualified person “in the world” to do the job.

She insisted that her father would nominate a “formidable replacement” for ambassador Nikki Haley, who has resigned and will leave at the end of the year.

But Ivanka went on to say that she will not be putting herself forward for the role, telling her millions of Twitter followers: “the replacement will not be me”.

She wrote: “It is an honour to serve in the White House alongside so many great colleagues and I know that the President will nominate a formidable replacement for Ambassador Haley.

“That replacement will not be me.”

It comes after Donald Trump said there was no one more qualified “in the world” for the position than his second child Ivanka, 36, describing her as “dynamite”.

But speaking outside the White House on Tuesday Mr Trump said he heard her name being discussed for the job and added that if he selected her he would be accused of nepotism.

The US leader had earlier announced that Ambassador Haley has resigned and will leave her post at the end of this year. He called her a "very special" person, adding that she told him six months ago that she might want to take some time off.

Mr Trump said that together they had "solved a lot of problems".
