A Fox News host has apologised after describing the Trump Kim summit in Singapore as a meeting of "two dictators."

Presenter Abby Huntsman apologised on Sunday after making the gaffe on Fox and Friends Weekend.

She was discussing Donald Trump's arrival in Singapore for his meeting with the North Korean leader where the two are set to discuss the possibility of Pyongyang's denuclearization.

As footage played of Mr Trump disembarking Air Force One, Ms Huntsman said: “There we have him. There is the president of the United States, Donald Trump, about to walk down those stairs, stepping foot in Singapore as we await this historic summit with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

"This is history we are living, regardless of what happens in that meeting between the two dictators. What we are seeing right now, this is history."

Ms Huntsman later apologised for the slip up claiming that she wasn’t a “perfect human being.”

"Apologised on the show. I’ll never claim to be a perfect human being. We all have slip ups in life, I have many. Now let’s all move on to things that actually matter," she said in a tweet.

The meeting will be the first time a sitting US President has met with a North Korea leader. It is also Kim’s longest overseas visit as leader.

Mr Trump has described the summit as a “one-time shot” at peace and told reporters during the G7 summit in Canada that he would “know within a minute” if the summit would be successful.

He has raised the possibility of further summits and an agreement on ending the Korean War by replacing the armistice signed in 1953 with a peace treaty.

China and South Korea would have to sign off on any legal treaty.

North Korea has said it is willing to deal away its entire nuclear arsenal if the United States provides it with a reliable security assurance and other benefits.
