The female radio DJ whose impersonation of the Queen led to the suicide of London nurse Jacintha Saldanha has quit her job a year after the tragedy.

Mel Greig — close to a breakdown after the shocking consequences of the Australian radio prank — has battled depression ever since and has never gone back on air. She took legal action against her employers at 2Day FM, Southern Cross Austereo, for “failing to maintain a safe workplace”. A joint statement said both parties have “amicably resolved all aspects of their dispute arising from the royal hoax call”.

On December 5 last year Greig, 31, and on-air co-host Michael Christian phoned the King Edward VII Hospital, where the then pregnant Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for morning sickness. They convinced staff the DJs were the Queen and Prince Charles — and another nurse divulged information on the Duchess’s condition.

Ms Saldanha, 46, who took the call and believed she was talking to Her Majesty, later took her own life, leaving a note blaming the DJs for her action.

The pair were taken off air but Christian began broadcasting again in February, while Ms Greig received counselling and remained on full pay.

It has been revealed that she had wanted the broadcast to be changed but was overruled by her bosses.
