Conor McGregor says he "regrets his actions" after he appeared in court to address charges over an alleged attack on a bus full of UFC fighters.

The UFC star made the comments to members of press waiting outside Brooklyn Supreme Court in New York on Thursday.

He added: "I understand the seriousness of this matter and I am hopeful that it gets resolved soon."

In April he was charged with three counts of assault and one of criminal mischief after footage emerged which appeared to show him unleashing a frenzied attack on his rivals' tour bus.

He returned to New York on Thursday, making a 45 second court appearance. His legal team informed the court that they plan to negotiate a plea.

Mr McGregor will return to the court on July 26.

A clip of the April incident appeared to show Conor McGregor running at a bus and hurling a metal dolly at its window.

The bus window is said to have smashed in the incident injuring fellow fighter Michael Chiesa, who suffered head and facial cuts from broken glass.

The incident followed a press conference in Brooklyn to publicise a lightweight UFC fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway.

Mr McGregor was said to be enraged over the decision by UFC bosses to strip him of his lightweight title and hand it to the winner of the clash.
