Beyoncé has made history at Coachella, becoming the first black woman to headline the music festival, one year after she was originally due to perform there.

The singer reunited with Destiny’s Child during her set on the second day of the star-studded festival in Indo, California in an “iconic” moment that delighted people across the globe.

As the star took the stage for her much-anticipated performance, fans renamed the festival Beychella in a hashtag that was trending on Twitter.

The 36-year-old took the stage for her Coachella debut shortly after 11pm, opening with a marching band version of her hit Crazy in Love.

She had teased her fans with a photo from backstage on Instagram just moments before.

Beyoncé later sang a rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing, which is often referred to as the black American national anthem.

It had been rumoured that the star would reunite with Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowlands and Michelle Williams during the set.

And fans were not left disappointed – the trio appeared on the festival’s main stage, performing Lose My Breath, Say My Name and Soldier.

The group wore matching camouflage outfits reminiscent of their Survivor video, with Beyonce saying “I’m so happy right now”.

The star was later joined by her sister Solange, who joined her in performing a dance segment towards the ends of the more than two hour set.

Last year, Beyoncé announced she had to cancel her Coachella spot at the last minute orders as she was pregnant with twins at the time.

Lady Gaga stepped in as her replacement.

Other headliners at the US festival this year included the Weeknd and Eminem.
