A breast implant handed to Australian police by a man who thought it was criminal evidence turned out to be a jellyfish.

The concerned man handed the item to officers in Queensland after believing it to be evidence of a drowning or even murder.

But, according to the BBC, the "bagged and tagged circular object" was confirmed by police to be nothing of the sort.

Queensland Police released a statement saying: "Officers at Maroochydore Station were all hands on deck when, much to their initial alarm, a concerned citizen attended the counter to report a possible homicide.

"Investigations revealed what police suspected… the item was indeed a jellyfish."

It is believed to be a blubber jellyfish, which has had its tentacle knocked off by waves or a fish.
